 Thomas Graham (1805-1869) adalah ahli kimia Skotlandia, penemu Hukum Graham, penemu ilmu kimia koloid, penemu beberapa istilah kimia koloid antara lain koloid, difusi, osmosis, sol, jel, peptisasi, seneresis, kristaloid, dan sebagainya. Ia lahir di Glasgow, Skotlandia, pada tanggal 20 Desember 1805 dan meninggal di London pada tanggal 11 september 1869 pada umur 64 tahun. Ayahnya menginginkan dia menjadi pendeta, tapi ketika masih kuliah di Glasgow, Graham jatuh cinta pada ilmu fisika. Ayahnya sangat marah dan tidak mau lagi membiayai kuliah dan kebutuhan hidupnya. Graham malah senang karena bebas dari tekanan orang tua. Ia lalu mencari nafkah sebagai pengarang dan guru, sambil melanjutkan kuliahnya. Ia lulus pada tahun 1826 pada umur 21 tahun.
Empat tahun kemudian ia diangkat jadi guru besar pada institut tersebut. Pada tahun 1837 ia juga jadi guru besar di University College di London. |
